Walking to School

Walking to school

Nearly all Primary Schools will encourage pupils to walk to school either with parents/guardians or in supervised peer groups. Numerous schemes are organised by the schools themselves or through the local authority and Active Schools Coordinators. These are designed to raise children's awareness of traffic highlighting safe options along given routes. Traffic Trails, Walking Buses and other localised schemes are all recognised as good practice. Check with your child's school for details.

Every time you are out and about with a child, take the opportunity to highlight safe places to cross, how to use designated crossings, etc. Just remember to consider these from the child's perspective – eye level is important when looking for vehicles.
